Additional Details Regarding De’Von Achane Extension

Miami Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan finally put his money where his mouth is regarding star running back De’Von Achane. After being outspoken in recent months about his desire to extend the running back and keep him in the fold for the long haul, Sullivan inked Achane to a four-year contract.

While the Dolphins’ decision to extend Achane through the 2030 season has been one of the biggest stories in the NFL over the last 24 hours and has received extensive media coverage, there are some lesser-known details worth highlighting.

First off, Achane is now the NFL’s third-highest-paid player at his position in terms of annual salary. With an annual average of a whopping $16 million, Saquon Barkley (a Super Bowl champ and former Offensive Player of the Year) and Christian McCaffrey (another former Offensive Player of the Year) are the only running backs making more money per season.

Moreover, quite a bit of Achane’s $64 million deal is guaranteed money. In fact, half of it — $32 million — is, and he could make even more than that $64 million mark in bonuses. He could earn as much as $68 million over the duration of his contract if he plays his cards right.

The 24-year-old and third-round pick back in the 2023 NFL Draft played his way into a hefty payday with a career year in 2025.  After spending his rookie and sophomore seasons on the precipice of stardom, he truly broke out and totaled a career-high 1,350 yards rushing while leading the league in rushing yards per attempt among all players with at least 750 carries.

All signs point to him spearheading the Dolphins’ running back room for years to come, and here’s hoping their run game will be highly effective once again in 2026 with him leading the way. Miami ranked in the top half of the league in rushing yards per contest a season ago.
