Broncos OLB Jonathan Cooper said he owes the organization and his teammates his best following his reinstatement.
“No, no,” Cooper said in response to a question about whether he thought Denver would give up on him, via Broncos Wire. “Obviously, matters are serious, and you need to handle things as a grown man, and responsibilities in order and gotta hold yourself accountable. But with this organization, and with myself, definitely hold myself accountable for just everything. I know I owe it to my teammates a lot for being here and really thankful to be back that they didn’t give up on me… Making sure I’m the best ‘Coop’ that I can be for my family, for my teammates, I represent more than just myself. That work transcends far beyond me putting stuff on the field or anything like that.“
Cooper responded to critics who have trouble supporting him following his allegations.
“It’s hard,” Cooper said. “Relationships are difficult. No excuses on my end and I do apologize for anybody’s feelings… I’m a grown man, I’m able to take things on the chin, and just want to say I understand the concern. I understand the level of awareness, how serious these matters are, but the legal matters will take care of themselves… There’s no excuses, and I do hold myself accountable. Things are going to sort themselves out, I can promise that.“
Chiefs RB Kenneth Walker has continued a historic run that saw him win a Super Bowl in Seattle, sign with Kansas City, and dominate by leading the league in rushing yards, earning praise from coaches and QB Patrick Mahomes.
“I can’t let my pops down,” Walker said, via The Athletic. “I just got to continuously grind. And I remember how it was growing up when I wrestled, baseball, basketball, whatever I did, he was there to make sure I was the best at it. So, I’m gonna continuously put myself in positions to be the best that I can.”
“The belief they have in me … It’s great to be in this position,” Walker noted. “That means a lot, and then they show it, so it means that much more.”
“Once he hits the edge, he’s gone. … To run physical like that, but to still be able to bounce it whenever it’s necessary and get gone, it’s a special ability, and we’re going to utilize it,” Mahomes explained.
