Colts

  • Regarding the Colts’ new general manager opening, Jason La Canfora of Casino.org hears that “everything is on the table” for and owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon will be driven to “put her stamp” on football operations and their roster.
  • According to La Canfora, a coaching change is “inevitable” for the Colts.
  • La Canfora reports people around the league expect Irsay-Gordon to “clean up the mess” GM Chris Ballard made at the quarterback and cornerback positions.
  •  La Canfora writes that QB Daniel Jones‘ two-year, $88 million contract led directly to Ballard being let go during the season.
  • One longtime NFL executive told La Canfora that Irsay-Gordon’s first order of business is finding their next quarterback: “The first order of business for the new GM is to find the next quarterback. That’s where she’s starting.”

Texans

Texans HC DeMeco Ryans shared his excitement about WR Tank Dell returning to the field for the first time in two years.

“I expect Tank just to be himself and just play the offense the right way. No huge expectations from what he needs to do. We’re all just going to be excited. I know me personally, I’m just going to be excited to see him just out there for the first time in over two years, just getting some game action. I’m just thankful, grateful for him to have this opportunity to return. I don’t have any expectations. I’m just happy to see him out there and that’s the only thing that matters.” Ryans said, via NFL.com. “As we all know, Tank is an explosive player. He’s still quick as ever. As our defenders who was covering him the past couple weeks, he’s been putting us in some tough matchups and practice the past two weeks. I expect him to go out on Sunday and do the same thing. Really stress defenders and that’s what Tank is going to do with his speed, his playmaking ability. He’s going to stress defenders and you add them in a mix with all of the other guys that we have. We just have a really good group of guys, a lot of guys who are capable of making big time explosive plays for us.”

“Those guys can move around to a lot of different spots. No one is just stuck in one particular position. Our coaches do a great job of moving them around. Everybody is versatile. We have a lot of different plays for different guys. We try to get as many guys touches as possible. That allows [Offensive Coordinator] Coach [Nick] Caley to mix it up really well with his play calls and set guys up to get opportunities to get the football.” Ryans added. “Another thing I’m proud of with our receivers, is they do a great job of the contested catches. Marvin getting his first catch with us yesterday. The first one was a tough, contested catch over the middle. I just like how our guys are playing tough, as well as getting the explosive plays.”

Titans

The Titans won their first game of the season in Week 6, beating the Colts 26-20. Tennessee HC Robert Saleh thinks QB Cam Ward has faced unfair criticism amidst their 1-5 start to the season.

“It goes without saying that when there’s failure, the quarterback’s always going to take a beating,” Saleh said, via Albert Breer of SI. “It is what it is, the quarterback and the head coach. And I think the most important thing is to keep perspective, because if we close out against the Giants, or we close out against Philadelphia, we’re talking completely differently about this young man. He’s got a lot of talent. He’s doing a lot of different things well.”

Saleh feels Ward deserves patience and time to grow as an NFL quarterback.

“I’m not going to hide behind the fact that he’s got things that he needs to improve on, but he also knows that. Just talking with Shane Steichen before the game, we were talking about college and just the development of quarterbacks, like he needs some grace. Give him a chance to grow. Give him a chance to get better. Give him a chance to understand a completely new offense with completely new players and completely new coaches.”

Saleh praised Ward’s diligence and said they are committed to developing him.

“And let’s see where he can take it. He’s too talented. He works too hard. It means too much to him for him to fail. I believe that in my heart. And yes, while I acknowledge that he has a lot of things to get better at, he also does a lot of things very, very well that get lost in losing. And we’re going to continue to build him up. We’re going to continue to find things that he does really well. We’re going to continue to amplify those. And I think Cam’s going to be a really good quarterback in this league for a long time.”
