AFC West: Most surprising takeaways from 2024 NFLPA survey

On Wednesday, the NFL Players Association released its 2024 team report cards, polling 1,706 players regarding their daily experience and working conditions.

Per the NFLPA website, the annual survey is designed to "highlight positive clubs, identify areas that could use improvement and highlight best practices and standards."

Below is the most surprising takeaway from the survey for each AFC West team.

Denver Broncos: Still no family room at the stadium

The Broncos received a D+ grade for their treatment of families. While they have daycare on game day, they're one of 12 teams with no family room at their stadium.

Last year, the Broncos refuted this claim but didn't specify if they have one at their practice facility, where players spend most of their time. There seems to be a disconnect on this topic, and ownership should address it. (Full report)

Kansas City Chiefs: Owner Clark Hunt's terrible grade

Surprisingly, Hunt received the league's worst ownership grade (F-). The issues may stem from the 59-year-old needing to keep his promises. Players noted that the club would renovate facilities after the 2022 season, but that didn't happen. They probably deserve better after winning three Super Bowls over the past five years.

Per Pro Football Talk's Michael David Smith, Hunt said he didn't see the report card but acknowledged it's time to "expand and modernize" the practice facility. He realizes he must keep players happy, which could help K.C. become the first team to three-peat as champions in the Super Bowl era. (Full report)

Las Vegas Raiders: Team receives high marks, except for head coach

The Raiders finished ninth overall and are still near the league's top in several categories. However, the survey was conducted when Josh McDaniels — fired after Week 8 — was still HC, negatively impacting their score.

McDaniels received the league's worst HC grade (D). If he had an average score, Las Vegas would've ranked in the top five. Players believe McDaniels wasted their time and didn't listen to the locker room. They voiced the same concerns in the 2023 report card, so it's surprising McDaniels didn't learn from his mistakes. Things could turn around under new HC Antonio Pierce, who had his interim tag removed after he went 5-4. (Full report

Los Angeles Chargers: There's a charge for daycare

The Chargers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the only teams in the league that make players pay for daycare. Los Angeles charges $75 for the first child and $50 for each additional child per family. The daycare is off-site, too. It's easy to see why players gave the team an F in the treatment of families.

Ownership should add a daycare center to their new facility — scheduled to open before the beginning of next season — and ditch the fees. (Full report
