The Kansas City Chiefs don't necessarily need cornerback depth for their 53-man roster, when that time comes, or their practice squad. But, if they did, they could have signed a guy who's from right in their backyard.
The way their roster is looking, adding another young CB would take away from other opportunities for their young guys to get snaps. They just drafted Nohl Williams and have a handful of other young guys in the room, undrafted and free-agent signees, who need some reps at camp.
But if they were in the market, a UFL star would have been quite the story. And, he's from Lee's Summit, a suburb of Kansas City, Missouri. Unfortunately for the Chiefs, if he ends up panning out, the Denver Broncos just signed him.
Mario Goodrich, a former Clemson cornerback, won a national championship in 2018 and earned first-team All-ACC honors in 2021. Over four college seasons, he played 47 games, recording 84 tackles, 15 pass breakups, five interceptions, and a pick-six in the 2021 Cheez-It Bowl, where he was named MVP.

Undrafted in 2022, Goodrich joined the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice squad, playing four games in 2023 with five tackles but struggling in coverage. Waived by the Eagles in July 2024 and briefly claimed by the New York Giants, he joined the UFL’s Birmingham Stallions in February. Despite a leg injury, he started five of seven games, recording 17 tackles, six pass breakups, and three forced fumbles.
He was pretty good, and others on social media have noted that he finished the 2025 season with a 90 PFF grade for the UFL season. He could compete for a roster spot on the Broncos, and the Chiefs could be seeing a local kid twice a year if he is good enough.
And then, of course, he would want to beat up on his likely childhood team.
