Agent for Giants' Tommy DeVito explains pizzeria 'miscommunication'

Sean Stellato, the agent for New York Giants rookie Tommy DeVito, spoke during an appearance on Fox Business Network's "The Claman Countdown" about the controversy related to a New Jersey pizzeria canceling a scheduled appearance by DeVito after Stellato allegedly doubled the quarterback's fee from $10K to $20K.

"There was obviously a miscommunication, and if I caused that, then I apologize," Stellato explained, as shared by Ryan Glasspiegel of the New York Post. "That wasn’t my intention. Like I said, we’re focused on playing football."

DeVito ultimately made an unpaid appearance at the pizzeria on Tuesday and suggested Wednesday that "some stuff just slipped through the cracks" as the New Jersey native became a local celebrity due to guiding the Giants to three consecutive victories.

While DeVito recently hired a new marketing team, Stellato is still representing the undrafted 25-year-old and insisted during the interview his relationship with the signal-caller "is as good as it’s ever been" despite the pizzeria kerfuffle.

"In life, sometimes there’s miscommunication," Stellato said. "I’m owning up to that. My intentions have always been to represent the client as best I can. I have a fiduciary duty both on and off the field, and I apologize for any miscommunications that I caused, I really do, my intent wasn’t that. We’re ready to move forward. This is obviously behind us."

DeVito needs to put such potential distractions behind him even though the 5-9 Giants are essentially out of the playoff hunt, as he's competing across the final three games of the ongoing campaign to earn a roster spot next season with either Big Blue or a different team. New York next plays at the 10-4 Philadelphia Eagles on Christmas Day, and those clubs will meet at MetLife Stadium in Week 18.

"Tommy loves his fans," Stellato added. "Tommy loves the Giants. Tommy loves the ownership, and he’s laser-focused, right now, on the last three games against the Eagles twice, and he knows this is the most important thing going on right now."
