Aidan Hutchinson injury update: Lions star reveals where he stands in recovery
Junfu Han / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Detroit Lions lost one of the best pass rushers in football early last season. Aidan Hutchinson suffered a gruesome injury against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 5. Ruled out for the year, the road to recovery is still ongoing for the fourth-year player.

On Thursday, Hutchinson spoke on his recovery as the Lions faced off against the Los Angeles Chargers in the Hall of Fame Game. You can tell he is ready to put it behind him and anxious to get back on the field. Possibly something to get fans back in Detroit fired up.

“I’m completely healthy,” Hutchinson said in an interview with NBC. “Really, the injury is an afterthought now. I just hope that once I start playing, people will stop asking me and stop thinking about that injury. I’ve moved on, and I can’t wait until people see me on TV again playing football, and they can also move on as well.”

A broken tibia and fibula against the Cowboys meant the former No. 2 overall pick only played in five games during the 2024 season. He still got an incredible 7.5 sacks — 4.5 of which came in Week 2 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers — bringing his career total to 28.5.

That does not even include what Hutchinson was able to do for the Lions during the 2023 playoff run. Two sacks against the Los Angeles Rams in the Wild Card Round were recorded, only followed up by getting to Baker Mayfield in the NFC Divisional Round. Hutchinson has proven to be a game wrecker, no matter the situation.

Recent reports have indicated the Lions could be looking to give Hutchinson a contract extension in the near future. Pass rushers across the league have been getting paid all offseason and maybe Hutchinson is next up despite the injury.

But based on the interview, everything for him right now is about football. Detroit has a massive game to start the season, facing off against the Green Bay Packers Week 1. With how much potential each team in the NFC North has heading into the year, every divisional matchup is going to be a massive one.

Hutchinson is hoping to get after Jordan Love in a big way. Quarterbacks across the league were able to avoid him for 12 games last season. Apparently, no more, as Hutchinson appears ready to get back on the field withfull force behind him.
