A.J. Brown continues to pay huge dividends for Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles stunned the NFL world ahead of the 2022 season when they traded for playmaking receiver A.J. Brown during the draft. Roughly halfway through his second season in Philly, the move continues to pay huge dividends.

In the Eagles' 38-31 Week 8 victory over the division-rival Washington Commanders, Brown was a huge standout, securing eight receptions for 130 yards (16.3 YPC) and two touchdowns.

Brown's big outing helped him become the first player in NFL history to record 125 receiving yards or more in six straight games. He surpassed Hall of Famer Calvin Johnson, who set the previous mark of five in 2012. To put the feat into context, the last Eagle to have back-to-back 125-plus yard receiving outings was Jeremy Maclin in 2014, per Zach Berman of PHLY.

With Brown seemingly reaching elite status, his success has to be hard to watch for the Tennessee Titans.

The Titans unloaded Brown ahead of the 2022 NFL Draft for two picks, including a first-rounder, which they used to select receiver Treylon Burks 18th overall. The former Arkansas standout has yet to break out with the Titans, recording 39 receptions for 543 yards and a touchdown in 14 games (nine starts). Battling through injury in 2023, Burks has only six catches for 99 yards in three starts.

In comparison, Brown has been one of the best receivers in the NFL since joining the Eagles. From the start of 2022 through Week 7 of the 2023 season, Brown had the third-most receiving yards (2,305) and touchdown catches (14) while posting the fifth-highest yards per reception (16.5) in the league.

There's still plenty of time for Burks to emerge and become a standout receiver. However, for now, the Eagles have won the trade by a large margin. Oh, and don't forget, Brown is only 26 years old and still has a long career ahead of him.
