After the Philadelphia Eagles' second consecutive loss, this time to the New York Giants in Week 9, following the meeting of "Barkley, Hurts, and Brown", the cryptic wide receiver is denying that said meeting ever happened. Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network reported posting some choice comments about Brown's recollection of the drama from earlier this week.
"A.J. Brown asked about the meeting with Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley this week repeatedly says he didn’t recall any meeting. When told, Hurts and Barkley confirmed it, he says you’d have to talk to them. As for the ’ offense: “We’re still trying to find our identity.”
The star wide receiver denied that the "selective" meeting even happened, despite Hurts and Barkley confirming it. Brown has been extremely cryptic and dismissive in the past several weeks of the season, causing what seems to be discontent amongst the ranks.
Brown started off the season slowly; however, over the past several weeks, he has seen an increased workload, which still puts him under 1,000 yards receiving for the season. Brown did manage to record six receptions for 80 yards against the Giants, which ultimately did not translate into a win for the Eagles.
While Brown's "antics" may have been just another storyline when the team was 4-0, the team is now on a two-game losing streak, putting a microscope on the defending champs, specifically Brown and the offense.
NFL teams have long seen the trials and tribulations of what some may call "disgruntled/diva" wide receivers, and Brown may be falling into that category. The disgruntled post-game pressers, ambiguous social media posts, losing games, and comments about a lack of targets are all recipes for disaster, especially if the Eagles can't return to their winning ways.
While the Eagles' wide receiver will undoubtedly face some scrutiny this week, the Eagles will have ten days to "figure it out" before they take on the potential Carson Wentz-led Minnesota Vikings in Week 7.
