Al Michaels Announces Decision On His NFL Announcing Future

Al Michaels has rightfully been a beloved play-by-play broadcaster in the NFL world for decades. Although fans might not want to admit it, his time in the booth is nearing an end.

Michaels, 81, called "Monday Night Football" from 1986 to 2005 before making the jump to NBC to be the voice of "Sunday Night Football." By 2022, he agreed to become the lead voice of Amazon Prime Video's "Thursday Night Football."

Initially, Amazon signed Michaels to a three-year contract with a $15 million salary. He then agreed to a one-year contract for the 2025 season.

Since Michaels is set to be a free agent this offseason, Amazon has to determine if it wants to keep the legendary broadcaster around. That is, of course, if he's interested in returning for another season.

During an appearance on the S"I Media with Jimmy Traina" podcast, Michaels confirmed he still wants to call NFL games.

"I feel really good right now," Michaels said, via the New York Post. "It’s been a good year. A lot of fun. I love the people I’m working with. So if I had to make a decision today, I would want to come back."

However, Michaels won't get the final say. He knows it'll come down to whether or not the network wants him back.

"It’s a two-way street here. They could tell me, ‘Hey, we gotta move on. It’s time to make a transition.’ All that. It could happen," Michaels continued. "But as of the moment, as we sit here on this mid-November afternoon, I feel really good. Still love what I do. And again, work with a tremendous crew. So, yeah, I think at this moment in time, I'd like to continue, yes."

Do you want to hear Michaels in the broadcast booth for another season?
