Alabama Football Reacts to Major Mark Ingram Announcement
Jerry Lai/USA TODAY Sports

Former Alabama Crimson Tide running back Mark Ingram won the program's first Heisman Trophy in 2009, rushing for an SEC-leading 1,658 yards and 17 touchdowns en route to a national championship victory for Nick Saban's squad.

Ingram finished his collegiate career in Tuscaloosa with 3,261 yards, earning him No. 7 position on the Crimson Tide's all-time rushing list. He also rushed for 42 touchdowns, trailing only Derrick Henry and Najee Harris all time.

Ingram entered the NFL ranks as the New Orleans Saints' No. 28 overall draft pick in 2011. He spent 12 seasons in the NFL (10 with New Orleans), earning three Pro-Bowl selections before retiring in 2022.

This past weekend, Ingram was recognized with a special honor.

The former Crimson Tide running back was inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday night.

Alabama football took to social media to react to this news.

"Congratulations, @markingramII on being inducted into the @ASHOF tonight! #RollTide," the team wrote on X.

Ingram is one of eight inductees in the 2025 Alabama Sports Hall of Fame class, joining Roberta Alison Baumgardner (tennis), Kieth Butler (football), Otis Davis (track and field), Jason Dufner (golf), Mike Mitchell (basketball), Charles "Butch" Moore (baseball) and Frank Warren (football).

"Born December 21, 1989, in Hackensack, NJ. In his first season as a running back at the University of Alabama, Ingram was named to the All-SEC Freshman Team. In his sophomore year, he was named a consensus All-American and was the offensive MVP in their national championship victory over Texas. Ingram won the Heisman Trophy in his sophomore season, the first in the history of the University of Alabama football. He was drafted 28th overall by the New Orleans Saints in the 2011 NFL Draft. Ingram also played with the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans before finishing his 12-year career back in New Orleans. He was named to three Pro Bowls and finished his career with 10,236 total yards and 75 total touchdowns," Ingram's plaque reads.

Alabama football will kickoff its 2025 season with a matchup against Florida State on Aug. 30.
