Alabama's DeVonta Smith, Tua Tagovailoa have discussed reuniting with Dolphins

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa just finished his NFL rookie season and, barring a surprising transaction or unfortunate injury, will enter next training camp as Miami's starting signal-caller.

The product of the Alabama Crimson Tide could receive 2020 Heisman Trophy winner, wide receiver, and former Alabama teammate DeVonta Smith as a new weapon in the Miami offense via this year's draft.

"We just talked about it would be nice to run it back again," Smith said during a Tuesday appearance on NFL Network, per Cameron Wolfe of ESPN. "Not too much, but somewhat talked about it."

They aren't the only people discussing the Dolphins possibly using the third overall pick of the 2021 draft on Smith. Last Wednesday, Walter Football projected the Dolphins will select Smith if he's available on the big board. In mock drafts updated over the past week, Ryan Wilson, Chris Trapasso, and Josh Edwards of CBS Sports all predicted that Smith will be available at pick No. 3 if the Dolphins want to acquire the young man widely viewed as the draft's top receiver.

In his first mock draft released this year, ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. has the New York Jets taking Smith away from their AFC East rivals via the second overall pick. Kiper wrote that he believes the Jets will stick with much-maligned quarterback Sam Darnold for at least one more season under new head coach Robert Saleh and give Darnold an elite No. 1 target in Smith.
