All-Pro Receiver Is Shocking Cut Candidate For Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins finished with an 8-9 record in 2024, missing out on the playoffs for the first time since 2021. The offense, once deemed one of the best in the NFL, struggled to build consistency, and the fact that quarterback Tua Tagovailoa struggled with injuries once again leaves the long-term future of the team in flux.

That leaves the future of Tyreek Hill up in the air, too. Even at 31 years old, and coming off a down year, Hill is still one of the best receivers in the NFL. He’s the most impactful player on the Dolphins roster, but Hill made it clear last season that he was unhappy with the direction of the team. There’s a world where Hill may not be on the team by the end of the season.

In a recent article for PFSN, Jacob Infante named one shocking cut candidate for every team in the NFL, and his choice for the Miami Dolphins was Hill, which came as a huge surprise.

“For the record, Tyreek Hill makes much more sense as a trade option. Not only would a player of his caliber reel in solid value in a trade, but the Miami Dolphins would save over $20 million more trading him rather than releasing him.” Infante writes.

Hill is in the second year of a three-year, $90 million contract extension and is coming off his worst statistical season since his rookie season. In 17 games, Hill caught 81 passes for 959 yards and eight touchdowns, and it was his first season without a Pro Bowl appearance.

“Keeping Hill here doesn’t make him a cut candidate, but rather a 'player who could be on the move' candidate,” Infante adds. “Hill was vocal near the end of last season that he wasn’t happy with the current state of the Dolphins’ organization. If those concerns remain strong, he could try to push himself out like Jalen Ramsey did.”

Hill might not fall into the true category of cut candidate for Infante, but with so much up in the air for the Dolphins heading into 2025, the idea that Hill could be on the move if the team struggles early is entirely possible. Maybe Hill and the front office figure it out earlier, especially if it becomes clear in training camp that Hill is unhappy with the team’s short-term aspirations.
