49ers' Jimmy Garoppolo: 'Sore' thumb is 'feeling great right now'

As noted by The Associated Press (h/t ESPN), San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo guided his offense down the field on an 88-yard game-tying drive in 61 seconds with under two minutes to play in this past Sunday's matchup at the rival Los Angeles Rams that San Francisco ultimately won in overtime to clinch a playoff berth.

Impressively, Garoppolo achieved this feat playing through the Grade 3 sprain of the ulnar collateral ligament in his right thumb and chipped bone that will ultimately require surgery to repair later this winter. Per David Bonilla of 49ers WebZone, Garoppolo spoke with reporters Wednesday about the hurting digit as he and his teammates prepare for this coming Sunday's wild-card showdown at the Dallas Cowboys.

"The thumb held up pretty well," Garoppolo explained about the setback. "It is what it is. It was a little sore after the game, but it's feeling great right now."

In total, Garoppolo completed 23-of-32 passes for 316 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions against the Rams in what could become a career-defining performance depending on how far the 49ers advance in the postseason tournament. As Bonilla noted, Garoppolo was limited in practice Wednesday, although that's become the norm for midweek sessions as it pertains to San Francisco's QB1.
