Colin Kaepernick reportedly in 'best shape of his life'

Could Colin Kaepernick be coming back to the NFL? It's a rumor that has gained a lot of traction this week, as players, coaches, and even commissioner Roger Gooddell have at least partially acknowledged the league's mistreatment of the former quarterback. But if Kaepernick doesn't make it back to the NFL, it won't be because he can't keep up, as the former 49ers quarterback is reportedly in "the best shape of his life."

According to TMZ Sports, a source close to Kaepernick revealed that the 32-year-old has maintained the same workout routine, including going to the gym and practicing every day. Kaepernick has not made any attempt to hide his interest in resuming his NFL career. Last year, he held a workout to show off his throwing ability and conditioning. However, he did not receive an offer from any team.

But times have changed and the very league that once vilified him and allegedly blackballed him now appears more ready to embrace him. When Kaepernick first began kneeling to protest police brutality, he was given little support and was openly criticized.

Now, Drew Brees is the one facing criticism after saying he doesn't agree with kneeling and several former and current players have voiced their support of Kaepernick. Most recently, Carlos Hyde, who played in San Francisco with Kaepernick, said the league should give him another chance.

"I think if they sign Kap back, that'll show that they're really trying to move in a different direction," Hyde explained. "Kap was making a statement four years ago about what's going on in today's world and the NFL didn't bother to listen to him then."

Will the NFL bother to listen to him now? It remains to be seen but if Kaepernick does get a call, it sounds like he's already in gameday shape.
