The New York Giants finally got their quarterback of the future by trading up for Jaxson Dart in the 2025 NFL Draft. While the team firmly believes they have their guy, the belief within the organization is that head coach Brian Daboll wants to approach the beginning of Dart’s career in the same way he did with Josh Allen on the Buffalo Bills.
With four quarterbacks currently on the roster, the Giants are looking to give Dart a pseudo-redshirt year and have him sit for most of the 2025 season, per ESPN insider Jordan Raanan. New York signed veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston in free agency, both of whom Raanan believes will be ahead of Dart on the depth chart.
“The Giants drafted Dart in the first round and seem OK with him sitting and learning for a year,” Raanan wrote. “Coach Brian Daboll talked about how he’ll get mostly third-team reps throughout the spring and summer. There will be a developmental plan similar to what they did with Josh Allen in Buffalo. In the meantime, Russell Wilson is the starter and Jameis Winston is the likely backup, with Tommy DeVito — the veteran who knows the offense best — entering his third season to provide support.”
Daboll built his reputation as a renowned offensive coordinator, but most notably worked with the Bills for the first four years of Allen’s career. Many credited Daboll for Allen’s rise, leading to his status as a top head coaching candidate.
Jaxson Dart has big shoes to fill with Giants
Even if he does not play a single meaningful snap in 2025, Dart joins the Giants with big shoes to fill. Being a first-round quarterback in a New York market will come with increased expectations, but Dart additionally joins the team amid one of its roughest patches in franchise history.
After six unsatisfying years with Daniel Jones under center, Giants fans desperately hope Dart is the answer. The team has not had a reliable quarterback for nearly a decade. While Eli Manning is viewed fondly by fans post-retirement, the final few years of his career were not well-received.
Manning, the last solid Giants quarterback and arguably the best signal-caller in franchise history, is also part of the reason fans are sold on Dart. The two share a lineage at Ole Miss, immediately sparking comparisons, considering Dart is the first former Rebel quarterback New York drafted since the two-time Super Bowl MVP.

The Las Vegas Raiders have the best defensive player in the National Football League, in Maxx Crosby. Crosby has been a force to deal with over the last few years. He has been all over the quarterbacks he has faced during that time. He loves to play the game and do it for the Silver and Black. That has been his team since day one, and the team that believed in him, when no one else gave him his opportunity. Crosby is the face of the Raiders franchise, and he wants to win as badly as anyone for this organization. He is having another good season in 2025 and is looking to get better and create more chaos in the backfield for the offense. He is one of a kind, and the Raiders need to do a better job of putting a good team around him to capitalize on what type of player Crosby is. Raiders Owner Mark Davis on Maxx Crosby "Asked about interest in Crosby and the team's decision not to trade him, Raiders owner Mark Davis told NFL.com he doesn't understand why people keep asking," said NFL Insider Ian Rapoport. "I don't know how many times I've got to say it," Davis said this past week following the Fall League Meeting in New York. "It's really hard to keep getting asked the same question every month or week or whatever when the answer's going to stay the same. I don't know why anybody would think I'd change my mind or the organization would." This past offseason, the Raiders signed Crosby to a three-year, $106.5 million extension through the 2029 campaign. Davis knows it's natural for teams to take a look around the league and covet what isn't theirs. However, he said "everything about Maxx is awesome" and he doesn't see him leaving. "Everybody wants to have your great players," Davis said. "It starts there, it doesn't start with us." Crosby has also made it very clear that he wants to stay with the Silver and Black and win in Las Vegas. But it is a question that is always asked because of the bad product the Raiders are putting on the field. The Raiders will get to soon if they made the right adjustments during their bye week, in Week 9 agiant the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Latest Matt Rhule news should end Penn State rumors
The Penn State Nittany Lions can likely scratch another candidate off their coaching wish list. On Thursday, ESPN "College GameDay" insider Pete Thamel reported Nebraska Cornhuskers head coach Matt Rhule has signed a two-year contract extension with the program, which will run through the 2032 season. It includes a $15M buyout this season, which should prevent another school from poaching him. Why Matt Rhule was considered a strong candidate to replace recently fired Penn State HC James Franklin After Penn State fired Franklin on Oct. 12, Rhule was immediately linked to the job. As a teenager, the New York native moved to State College, where he became a walk-on linebacker for the Nittany Lions from 1994-97. He clearly still loves his alma mater. "I love Penn State, met my wife there, my alma mater," Rhule told the media shortly after Franklin was fired. "Fan since I was born, I think probably had a Penn State shirt when I was born. I really love [athletic director] Pat Kraft, and I'm sad to see coach Franklin go." While the AD for the Temple Owls, Kraft gave Rhule his first head-coaching job in 2013. Now that he has signed the extension, he can't turn to his old friend again and must explore other options. Where does Penn State go from here? The list of candidates in Penn State's head-coaching search is shrinking. The Indiana Hoosiers signed HC Curt Cignetti, another potential target, to an eight-year, $11.6M contract on Oct. 16. The Nittany Lions could attempt to court Ole Miss Rebels HC Lane Kiffin, who has his team in the thick of the national championship hunt after a 7-1 start. However, if he does leave Oxford, expect him to stay in the SEC rather than flocking to the Big Ten. Some believe Kiffin may be the next HC of the LSU Tigers and Florida Gators. And for any optimistic Penn State fans thinking they can lure ESPN analyst Nick Saban out of retirement, dream on. The former Alabama Crimson Tide HC has said there's "no way" he's returning to coaching. Don't bank on Penn State (3-4) promoting interim HC Terry Smith, especially after losing to the Iowa Hawkeyes, 25-24, in his first game. Instead, it may target HCs Mike Elko (Texas A M Aggies), Clark Lea (Vanderbilt Commodores) and Jeff Brohm (Louisville Cardinals). Penn State alumni may have welcomed a homecoming for Rhule. Now, it no longer looks like a possibility.
Dexter Lawrence blasts Giants legend Carl Banks after harsh criticisms
Shortly after the New York Giants fell to 2-6 on the season via a 38-20 loss at the Philadelphia Eagles this past Sunday, Giants legend and current radio color commentator Carl Banks offered some harsh criticisms of Big Blue star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence. While speaking with reporters on Wednesday, Lawrence fired back at Banks. Dexter Lawrence rips "delusional" Carl Banks "He’s delusional," Lawrence said about Banks, per Darryl Slater of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com. "Yeah, those were strong words, but if that’s how he feels, f--- it. “I don’t really know what he’s watching, but he can say what he wants,” Lawrence said. “I’m going to keep doing what I’m doing, trying to help us get a win. That’s it.” Specifically, Banks claimed that the game film shows that "nobody respects" Lawrence anymore. Banks also ripped Lawrence for "not making a difference" as the Eagles accumulated a whopping 276 rushing yards at Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field. Earlier this summer, one unnamed NFL personnel director said that Lawrence should have won Defensive Player of the Year Award honors for the 2024 campaign even though the 27-year-old only played in 12 games before he went down with a season-ending elbow injury. Lawrence currently isn't even the best defensive player on the Giants, as pass-rusher Brian Burns is tied for the NFL lead with 10 sacks. According to Jordan Raanan of ESPN, Lawrence has tallied 20 total tackles, one tackle for a loss, 0.5 sacks, one interception, 10 initial pressures and four quarterback hits this season. "I think I’m doing what I can when I get the opportunities," Lawrence explained. "Numbers are not everything. I’ve been an advocate of that last year and the year before that and the year before that. I don’t think numbers indicate anything — for real. They’re just something that’s on your stat sheet. I think the way I play is disruptive. You ask people I play against, and they’ll tell you the same thing. Not people who are talking." Dexter Lawrence shares wish after Carl Banks comments Giants linebacker Bobby Okereke suggested that Banks was possibly "trying to light a fire under" Lawrence with comments that generated discussions on New York sports talk radio programs. If that truly was Banks' goal, his plan seems to have produced the desired result. "Let’s say this: I hope people start trying to disrespect me," Lawrence added. "I hope they start not respecting me, because that’s not what’s showing on the field. They’re showing a lot of respect on the field." Lawrence will next have an opportunity to offer an on-the-field response to Banks when the Giants host a 5-3 San Francisco 49ers side that features dynamic running back Christian McCaffrey. As of Thursday morning, ESPN BET had New York as a 2.5-point underdog for this coming Sunday's matchup.
Steelers Fans Get New Glowing Report About Safety Kyle Dugger As He Brings A Huge Upgrade To The Defense
The Pittsburgh Steelers have been a team that has been involved in plenty of trade rumors, and those rumors amplify as the trade deadline grows closer. The deadline is on November 4th, and Pittsburgh has made its first trade of the regular season. The organization acquired safety Kyle Dugger from the New England Patriots earlier in the week as the two sides swapped a sixth and seventh round pick as well in the deal. Dugger was a smart player for the Steelers to acquire, especially after DeShon Elliott's knee injury that got him placed on Injured Reserve. Elliott could miss serious time with his injury, but he will be out for at least four games and it could be more. Dugger will come in and try to fill his shoes, as he should be an immediate contributor to the defense. The trade was officially announced by the team on Thursday, so he won't have much time to get on the practice field or ingratiate himself into the defensive system. He could see the field some on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts, but it would be in a limited capacity. Current Pittsburgh safety Jabrill Peppers played with Dugger in New England, and he shared some glowing comments on his new teammate while speaking with Jim Wexell of SteelCityInsider. "Personally, I think he's one of the better safeties in the league -- 6-1, 6-2, long arms, fast, explosive, can cover, play the run, play over the top, can play underneath," Peppers told SteelCityInsider. "He was dealing with a little bit of an injury last year. His deltoid was off the bone. I don't know if anybody really knew, like, what was going on with him, but it's kind of hard to play with things like that. So I'm excited for him." Dugger only played in 13 games during the 2024 season due to his shoulder injury, but he did try to play through, which it led to a slight dip in his production. A new coaching staff came into New England during the 2025 offseason, and they decided to go in a new direction at safety. This led to Peppers getting cut and then signed by Pittsburgh, and it also led to Dugger being available via trade. Peppers is expected to be starting at safety on Sunday against the Colts, and he and Dugger should eventually become the starting safety duo for the Steelers once the newly acquired safety gets acclimated. Dugger has racked up 441 total tackles in his career to go with nine interceptions. He is a great tackler and is a true asset in run support, which is something Pittsburgh needs as the season moves on. Pittsburgh's defense has been very disappointing so far in 2025, and hopefully the change to Dugger and Peppers at safety is able to provide some sort of spark for the back end. The Steelers need it, especially with a three-game losing streak looming. Steelers Made Great Low-Risk Move In Acquiring Kyle Dugger Dugger was relatively cheap for Pittsburgh when it came to draft capital, but many fans were immediately worried about the financial impact of the deal. The safety had signed a lucrative contract extension back in 2024, and that was a concern with him coming into Pittsburgh. The deal was for four years and $58 million, but the Steelers had it negotiated in the trade talks that the rest of the years on the deal are wiped out. This means the safety will be a free agent after the 2025 season ends, and the organization is not tied to him financially. In addition to that, New England is also paying the majority of his remaining salary for the 2025 season. This is already a win for the Steelers.
