GM: Seahawks 'never actively negotiated' about trading Russell Wilson

Following what felt like months of rumors linking unsettled Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson with a trade from the only NFL home he's known since the 2012 draft, both Seattle head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider spoke with reporters on Wednesday and suggested the one-time Super Bowl champion signal-caller was always staying put.

Despite a story from March that said the Chicago Bears allegedly made "a very aggressive pursuit" of Wilson, Carroll directly explained: "We weren’t trading Russell." Schneider admitted he received calls from interested teams during the offseason but added that nothing serious came from any discussions.

"There was a number of teams that called after that media blitz that happened, but, no, I never actively negotiated with anybody, with any team," Schneider said, per the Seahawks' website. "Did people call? Absolutely. But I'm not going to get into specific teams. There was never ever a conversation.

"People think that trade talks happen, hey, you just start negotiating right away. There's a lot of calls that are very, very periphery calls. Unless you're dealing with trading a seventh-round pick for a player that may be getting cut, that's going to be on the wire or something like that, those happen very quickly.

"Yeah, no, there was no act of negotiations going on."

Wilson is signed through 2023 but could spark future trade rumors if he fails to commit the remainder of at least his physical prime to the Seahawks before next winter.
