JJ Watt calls out fan: Taking a knee isn't about the American flag

Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt called out a fan via social media on Saturday over comments about national anthem protests.

The fan, who tweeted "Pretty sure you won't see J.J. Watt taking a knee..." got a likely unexpected response from the Pro Bowler.

"If you still think it's about disrespecting the flag or our military, you clearly haven't been listening."

Watt addressed the death of George Floyd recently, calling it "disgusting" and "upsetting," among other things.

"I've seen the video, and I think it's disgusting," Watt said, according to ESPN. "I think that there's no explanation. I mean, to me, it doesn't make any sense. I just don't see how a man in handcuffs on the ground, who is clearly detained and clearly saying, in distress ... I don't understand how that situation can't be remedied in a way that doesn't end in his death. I think that it needs to be addressed. Strongly, obviously."

Watt isn't the only member of the Texans organization speaking up for what is right. Head coach Bill O'Brien said he will take a knee with his players this season to protest racial inequality and police brutality.

Many players have announced they'll be kneeling during the national anthem this season, and President Donald Trump isn't happy about it.

Trump called out NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell for allowing players to kneel during the national anthem, and the president did the same when he found out US Soccer would be allowing players to kneel as well.
