It was fun while it lasted.

The dream scenario of pass rusher Joey Bosa teaming up with his brother Nick Bosa on the San Francisco 49ers comes to an end. Bosa has agreed to a contract restructure in order to stay with the Los Angeles Chargers.

It was either take the restructure or be cut, which it seemed likely he would be cut. The Chargers already cut wide receiver Mike Williams to improve their salary cap situation, and Khalil Mack also took a restructure to help out as well. However, the Chargers still needed more salary cap alleviation.

Bosa was thought to be that other player who would be cut, yet he chose to take the restructure and see how the Chargers look under new head coach Jim Harbaugh. It was a nice little cute fantasy to think of the Bosa brothers teaming up on the 49ers, but if there was any pass rusher on the Chargers the 49ers should've wanted it was Mack.

Bringing Joey Bosa to the team is more popular in name than it actually is for the product on the field. I think what easily gets forgotten is that Bosa is made of glass and is no longer in his prime anymore. He is still a fairly good pass rusher, whenever he actually plays, but in the open market he likely would've cost a lot more than his actual value for the 49ers.

They would've needed to move around a lot of numbers on the cap to squeeze him in and they probably would've done it. Luckily, the Chargers got Bosa to stay on and they end up saving the 49ers from making a decision on him. A "Thank you" card should be sent to the Chargers as a result.
