The New York Jets offense led by Justin Fields has garnered mixed predictions ahead of the 2025 season.
Some think it will be tough for Tanner Engstrand's unit to consistently put up points, while others suggest that the offense might surprise a lot of people given the talent on the roster.
In truth, these are all projections as we have no idea how the offense will perform, but for ESPN's Louis Riddick, he thinks that with the talent around Fields, the former first-round pick has the tools to have a career year in the Big Apple.
"They have got to establish the run with the running backs they have," Riddick said on ESPN's GetUp. "Look, Tanner Engstrand, it's staring him right in the face, as far as philosophically, what the approach should be for this team. Quarterback run, feature running backs, lean on this offensive line, play action pass.
"So, could Justin Fields have a career-year which would be comprised of 20+ touchdown passes, 3k plus in passing yards, 800+ in rushing yards? I absolutely could see it happening."
We know that Engstrand will look to implement what the Detroit Lions did during his time there with a multiple back system and that will be the heartbeat of the offense.
Breece Hall, Braelon Allen, and Isaiah Davis will be the trio used, and Fields can lean on them while having Garrett Wilson, Josh Reynolds, and Allen Lazard as his main pass-catching options.
As far as the career year, we think it is less about the stats and more about how Fields plays. Can he show he can be a consistent quarterback and make plays when needed? We know his credentials as a runner, but as a passer? We need to see more.
And if Riddick is confident that Fields can have a big season, then color us optimistic as well.
