The Pittsburgh Steelers improved to 2-1 on the season after they forced five turnovers in a 21-14 win at the New England Patriots in Week 3.
While the Steelers began Tuesday atop the AFC North standings (tied with the Cincinnati Bengals), analyst Dalton Wasserman of Pro Football Focus is among noteworthy members of the NFL community who aren't yet convinced Pittsburgh is a legitimate contender.
"If we're looking at Pittsburgh, and the way they've played offensively through three games, and right now they're the third-lowest graded offense in football, the bubble is gonna pop," Wasserman said during Monday's edition of the "PFF NFL Show," per Jake Brockhoff of Steelers Depot. "The offensive tackles are bad. They can't run the ball. To be honest with you, there is no more fool's gold in the NFL right now than Aaron Rodgers' touchdown-to-interception ratio."
Rodgers completed 22-of-30 pass attempts for 244 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions in Pittsburgh's 34-32 Week 1 win at the New York Jets, the team that unceremoniously showed him the door following the 2024 campaign. Over the following two contests, however, Rodgers connected on 60.7 percent of his passes for 342 yards with three scores and three picks.
Meanwhile, ESPN stats show that the Steelers ended Week 3 of the season ranked 30th in the league in total offense (247.0 yards gained per game) and 31st with an average of 63 rushing yards per game.
"Rodgers is like a Tier 2 player, maybe a low Tier 2 player," one unnamed NFL executive recently told Mike Sando of The Athletic. "The one thing he will do twice out of the 17 starts is take you on a magic carpet ride. Unfortunately for Pittsburgh, they used one of those up already (against the Jets)."
This coming Sunday, the Steelers will face a 2-1 Minnesota Vikings side that notched a pair of defensive touchdowns in a 48-10 blowout win over the Bengals in Week 3. As of Tuesday morning, ESPN BET had Pittsburgh as a 2.5-point underdog for the matchup versus Minnesota that will take place at Croke Park in Dublin, Ireland.
