The New England Patriots own the fourth overall pick in the NFL Draft this year, and there are a lot of directions in which they can go with the selection.
The Patriots can actually have some fun with it, as they already have their quarterback of the future in Drake Maye, so there is no pressure to have to find a way to take Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward.
Instead, New England can simply choose to address one of its many needs, and Mason Cameron of Pro Football Focus seems to believe that Arizona Wildcats wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan would represent the "ideal" choice for the Pats.
"The 6-foot-5, big-bodied X-receiver out of Arizona would certainly fit the bill as a difference-maker who could make up for the growing pains that come with developing a young passer," Cameron wrote.
McMillan is coming off of a brilliant 2024 campaign in which he hauled in 84 receptions for 1,319 yards and eight touchdowns, establishing himself as the second-best wide out in this draft class behind Colorado's Travis Hunter.
The 21-year-old arrived at Arizona in 2022 and made an immediate impact, averaging 18 yards per catch during his freshman season. He then racked up 1,402 yards and 10 scores in Year 2.
Wide receiver is unquestionably one of the Patriots' most prominent needs heading into the offseason, as they had probably the worst receiving corps in football this past year.
Yes, New England has plenty of cap room to sign free agents or to potentially swing some trades, but there aren't a ton of great options on the open market, and blockbuster trades are never easy.
The simplest solution for the Pats could be finding a dynamic receiver in the draft, and McMillan would certainly represent that.

Star pass-rusher Aidan Hutchinson is once again a key contributor for the Detroit Lions, coming off the devastating injury he suffered last fall. For a piece published on Wednesday, ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler suggested that the Lions could soon lock Hutchinson down beyond the ongoing campaign after the club picked up the 25-year-old's fifth-year option for 2026 this past offseason. Lions, Aidan Hutchinson have had "exploratory" contract talks "Lions edge-rusher Aidan Hutchinson looks destined for a new deal," Fowler shared. "Both sides have had exploratory discussions about an extension, for which Hutchinson is eligible as a fourth-year pro." Back in July, Fowler noted that Hutchinson was leading the NFL in sacks (7.5), pressures and win rate last season before he went down with gruesome fractures of his tibia and fibula in October 2024. According to Pro Football Reference, Hutchinson enters Week 6 of the 2025 campaign tied for third in the league with five sacks and second with three forced fumbles. How much could Aidan Hutchinson make via extension? "Top pass-rushers now make quarterback money, punctuated by Micah Parsons' four-year, $188M deal with Green Bay," Fowler continued. "While I'm not sure Hutchinson tops that number, he'll be among the highest paid at his position whenever this deal gets done. ...Detroit has shown an eagerness to extend its marquee players, and there's none bigger than Hutchinson." Before Parsons put pen to paper on his deal, Maxx Crosby of the Las Vegas Raiders received a three-year, $106.5M extension during the offseason. Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns later signed a four-year, $160M deal that included $123.5M guaranteed. During the summer, the Pittsburgh Steelers gave T.J. Watt a three-year, $123M extension that included $108M guaranteed. Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, All-Pro offensive tackle Penei Sewell and quarterback Jared Goff are a few examples of Lions players who have received extensions from the club over the past couple of years. That said, both Detroit and Hutchinson may have reasons to drag contract talks out. Hutchinson could increase the value of his deal if he keeps playing well through January (or February). Meanwhile, everybody involved received a harsh reminder roughly 12 months ago that one play can drastically alter or even threaten a player's career. For now, Hutchinson and the 4-1 Lions will focus on preparing for the upcoming "Sunday Night Football" game at the Kansas City Chiefs (2-3). As of Wednesday, ESPN BET had Detroit as a 2.5-point underdog for that matchup.
The Yankees set foot in Game 4 against Toronto, riding the wave of a dramatic comeback in Game 3, but the confidence did not last for long. As soon as the lineup card was posted online, social media was flooded with annoyance, particularly over two bold decisions by Aron Boone. One was regarding Ben Rice. And the other was keeping Anthony Volpe at shortstop regardless of his postseason struggles. New York Yankees’ X handle updated the news, “@Yankees. Game 4 in the BX.” With this, the Yankees’ Game 4 lineup post was shown. Trent Grisham, CF, Aaron Judge, RF, Cody Bellinger, LF, Giancarlo Stanton, DH, Jazz Chisholm Jr., 2B, Paul Goldschmidt, 1B, Austin Wells, C, Anthony Volpe, SS, and Ryan McMahon, 3 B. The focus immediately zeroed in on Anthony Volpe, who has endured a difficult 2025 season. Volpe hit just .212 with 19 homers, 72 RBIs, and a .663 OPS in the regular season. Those struggles have followed him into October, too, where he’s batting .217 with a .608 OPS in the postseason so far. Fans questioned why Boone would stick with him in such a high-stakes game instead of making a defensive or matchup-based adjustment. Adding to the drama was the decision at first base. Adding to the drama was the decision at first base. For the first time all series, Ben Rice didn’t get the start, as Boone inserted Paul Goldschmidt into the lineup. Goldschmidt, 37, has battled declining power this season. There are multiple instances where Goldschmidt failed the team. For instance, on July 24, 2025, the star committed 2 miscues in a 12-5 loss to the Phillies that dropped them 5 1/2 games back of the AL East-leading the Jays. Goldschmidt also admitted that his declining performance has hurt the team after the 7-0 loss of the Yankees to the Athletics on June 28. Following the disheartening defeat, Goldschmidt addressed his recent performance. “It’s hurt our team the way I’ve played this month,” he said, per SNY Yankees Videos. “I feel fine but I’ve not played well for the last few weeks, maybe even this whole month,” Goldschmidt acknowledged. However, Boone explained his reasoning clearly: “Goldschmidt starts at 1B for Rice, with Boone saying he wanted more balance to not give the Blue Jays clear lanes in their bullpen game,” reported Greg Joyce of the New York Post. With New York battling to stay alive and push a decisive Game 5 back in Toronto, every lineup choice carries extra pressure. Now, Boone’s gambles have become a point of discussion. The Washington Commanders are back home to take on the Chicago Bears in an anticipated rematch on Monday Night Football. This game had everything you could ask for last season, between the buildup of the number one and number two overall picks in the draft, and the most chaotic finish of the year. That was last year, though, and the Commanders know they can't reflect on the past as they prepare for this game. Jayden Daniels' mindset has always been one of his biggest strengths, and he showed it again when he agreed with head coach Dan Quinn's comments on the rematch. No reason to hang onto the Hail Mary The showdown between the Commanders and Bears last season had the biggest surprise ending of the season, and it was a massive momentum shift for both teams. The Commanders went on to make a run through the playoffs, while the Bears struggled the rest of the season and made major changes after the year ended. It's very easy to hold onto such an emotional moment as a football player, especially for Daniels, who threw the pass, but he's moved on from it and won't reflect on it anymore, because there's no reason to bring it into the rematch. "I just left that in last year. It speaks for itself," Daniels said. "Like, I mean, that Hail Mary ain't gonna help us win a game on Monday. So what's the point?" Dan Quinn won't bring it up with the team Quinn is on the same page with his quarterback, and the Hail Mary isn't even a topic that has been brought up to the team. "It's last year's story. You know?" Quinn said. "Like, it was awesome. We loved it, but like, it doesn't apply to this week's game at all unless we get into that exact scenario and that exact situation. So then we can talk about it, but until then, like we have a lot of stuff to get better at and work on, to get ready." The Commanders are facing a different Bears team that is coming off a bye week, while the Commanders are looking to bring the momentum from last week's win, and not the Hail Mary finish from the previous season. Every NFC game matters when it comes to the playoffs, so you can't afford to let this one slip away at home.
The Las Vegas Raiders announced they have signed LB Jon Rhattigan from the Steelers practice squad and also added LB Jamin Davis to the practice squad. The Raiders cut QB Jeff Driskel to make room on the practice squad. Davis, 26, is a former first-round pick of the Commanders back in 2021 out of Kentucky. He was in the final year of his four-year rookie contract after having the team decline his fifth-year option when Washington elected to waive him in October 2024. Davis then caught on with the Packers’ practice squad a few weeks later. The Vikings signed him to their active roster before waiving him in December when he was claimed by the Jets. The Jets cut Davis loose coming out of the preseason this year. In 2024, Davis appeared in nine games for the Commanders and Vikings, recording 18 total tackles and a sack.
