Despite a shoulder injury ending his 2024 season prematurely, the strong results suggested Las Vegas Raiders cornerback Jakorian Bennett was on the right track in his development.
However, the change in leadership to head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Spytek appears to have thrown a wrench into things. 2023 fourth-round pick Decamerion Richardson appears to have jumped over Bennett on the depth chart, while free agent signing Eric Stokes and third-round rookie Darien Porter have more vested interest from the new regime. Meanwhile, Bennett has jumped all around the depth chart, suggesting his roster spot is currently up in the air.
If things continue to trend the way they have, one analyst suggests that the Raiders could decide it is in their best interest to see what Bennett can get on the market.
According to Raiders insider Moe Moton, Bennett will be a target of interest from other teams if he does not retain his starting spot.
I think it’s a possibility that Jakorian Bennett gets traded if he doesn’t start this year.
Teams will inquire about him.
He has starting exprience on the outside and played well before suffering that season-ending shoulder injury last year. https://t.co/vrs21R43WU

While Bennett’s fit in the new Raiders defense is questionable due to Carroll’s preference towards bigger defensive backs, a trade feels like a last resort option.
Pulling the plug on a player like Bennett does not send a positive message to any team, especially after said player performed well last season. If Carroll and defensive coordinator Patrick Graham are not going to start Bennett on the boundary, there are other places he could contribute. Training camp and the preseason provide excellent opportunities to test Bennett out as a slot cornerback or even as a deep safety in some coverage schemes.
Bennett is going to have to put in work this offseason, but the Raiders coaching staff should give him the chance to prove himself before jettisoning him off to a new team.
