Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs secured their first winning record of the 2025 NFL season, jumping to 4-3 after a 31-0 win over Pete Carroll and the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 7. Now, they will look ahead to their Week 8 matchup when the Jayden Daniels-less Washington Commanders come to town on "Monday Night Football."
Reid’s offense turned in one of its best performances following the return of wide receiver Rashee Rice, who had been suspended for the first six games for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. However, while Patrick Mahomes regained one of his top pass-catchers, he lost rookie tackle Josh Simmons, who has been away from the team for personal reasons.
Still, the Chiefs emerged relatively healthy from their win over the Raiders. However, on Thursday, Reid revealed a couple of injuries on Mahomes’ side of the ball that came from the AFC West matchup: running back Kareem Hunt missed practice with a bone bruise in his knee, while starting guard Trey Smith sat out with lower back spasms.
"As far as the injuries go, the guys that won't go today are Kareem Hunt, who has a bone bruise on his knee," Reid said. "He's going to be okay, but he's gonna sit out today. And then Trey (Smith), he's got low back spasms... It's getting better, we'll see how it goes."
Reid also gave an update on Simmons, who remains away from the team.
"There's communication," Reid added. "I'm not going to get into all of it, but everything's positive. It is not a negative situation. He’s taking care of family.”
