Andy Reid, Chiefs Suffer Double Loss on Tuesday

Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs had arguably the most disappointing season of his 13-year tenure in 2025, finishing with a 6-11 record and missing out on the NFL playoffs for the first time since 2014.

Now, the Chiefs are in the midst of significant changes, which could include Travis Kelce’s potential retirement. Offensive coordinator Matt Nagy is also heading elsewhere, interviewing with multiple teams across the league for potential head-coaching opportunities. However, Kansas City moved quickly to fill Nagy’s role, bringing back former offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy.

But the Chiefs have seen other changes to Reid's coaching staff as well. Running backs coach Todd Pinkston and wide receivers coach Connor Embree were both fired. Defensive quality control coach Louie Addazio departed for UNLV. And assistant defensive line coach Alex Whittingham joined his dad, Kyle, at Michigan. Yet, the Chiefs weren't done there.

Mark DeLeone started his NFL coaching career with the New York Jets in 2012 before joining Reid's staff in Kansas City the following year as the defensive quality control coach. He spent six seasons with the Chiefs before moving on, only to return in 2025 as the assistant running backs coach, moving to the offensive side of the ball for the first time since he was at New Hampshire in 2009.

Kevin Saxton, on the other hand, served as the co-offensive coordinator and the quarterbacks coach for Benedict College during the 2022 college football season. He joined Reid's staff in 2023 as the team's offensive assistant, helping lead the Chiefs to two Super Bowl appearances in three years.

But on Tuesday, Kansas City decided it was time to make additional changes, parting ways with both DeLeone and Saxton and leaving the Chiefs searching for even more coaching replacements.

"Two more departures from Chiefs coaching staff: Mark Deleone, assistant RBs coach last year, and Kevin Saxton, an offensive assistant," The Kansas City Star's Sam McDowell wrote on X.

While Reid and the Chiefs continue their coaching search, they will also prepare the roster for the 2026 NFL season, eyeing a return to the Super Bowl. Free agency will begin on March 11, while the 2026 NFL Draft, where Kansas City has the No. 9 pick, starts on April 23.
