Anthony Lynn strangely compares Chargers' situation to Pearl Harbor

Anthony Lynn's Los Angeles Chargers are struggling mightily this season, but there are some things a head coach should just never compare his football team to. Pearl Harbor is one of them.

During a video conference call on Wednesday, Lynn compared the Chargers' current situation to the tragic attack on Pearl Harbor that occurred 79 years ago.

“Just the other day (December 7) was Pearl Harbor Day, one of the biggest defeats this country has had,” Lynn said. “We bounced back from that. I kind of used that as an example with my staff the other day. We’re down and out, but we’re not down yet.”

It's odd that Lynn would even make that comment to his staff, but why would he ever think it's okay to reveal the information publicly? There's really no excuse to compare one of the most tragic days in American history with a poor football season marred by inconsistencies.

The Chargers have lost nine of their last 11 games, sitting fourth in the AFC West with a 3-9 record. Lynn's job reportedly is on the line, too. However, the Chargers are waiting until the end of the 2020 season to determine his fate.

With a number of talented candidates available for head-coaching jobs, Lynn's rather odd comments won't do much to cement his position with the franchise.
