The Indianapolis Colts were the latest team in the NFL to officially come to a conclusion on there offseason quarterback battle, ultimately naming Daniel Jones, who they signed this offseason, the starter for Week 1, while Anthony Richardson will serve as the backup.

Indianapolis drafted Richardson with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft and while head coach Shane Steichen made it clear his future as a potential starter is not determined by this decision, it was certainly one fans were not ecstatic about.

Nonetheless, Richardson spoke about being the backup and said there's no animosity or hard feelings about Steichen's decision.

[Shane Steichen] made a decision," Richardson said. "That's the decision we've got to live with, but no hard feelings, nothing personal. I've just got to keep growing. I just can't let me not being a starter stop me from going and being the person, the player that I'm supposed to be."

Anthony Richardson's Agent Speaks Out on Decision

Yet, while Anthony Richardson had a professional response, his agent, Deiric Jackson, appeared far less pleased with the decision. Jackson issued a concerning message, suggesting that trust within the organization is now “questionable.”

“We have a lot to discuss,” Jackson told ESPN. “Trust is a big factor, and right now, at best, it’s questionable. Anthony came back and made the improvements in the areas he needed to. By all accounts, he had a great camp.”

“When they needed a big play last year,” Jackson added, “whose hands did they put the ball in? Anthony’s.”

Anthony Richardson has endured a rocky first two seasons in the NFL. While he’s flashed superstar potential, consistency has been harder to come by. Questions about his ability to fully embrace a leadership role—combined with extended time on the sidelines due to injuries—have stalled his development at key moments.

This offseason, the Colts signed Daniel Jones to a one-year, $14 million deal. After weighing their options, the team ultimately chose to move forward with the more proven veteran, at least for now.
