Injuries are the worst part of sports, and there's always a risk that a team could see multiple injuries occur in any game. The Indianapolis Colts saw two players go down this past week before their Week 6 matchup even kicked off in freak accidents.
Star CB Charvarius Ward suffered a concussion after colliding with his own teammate, TE Drew Ogletree, during pre-game workouts. And backup QB Anthony Richardson suffered one of the most unlucky injuries I’ve ever heard of.
Richardson was doing his typical pre-game workouts when a band broke, and he took a blow to the eye as a result. He was taken to the hospital and later diagnosed with an orbital fracture. The injury seems pretty serious, as the Colts' backup quarterback has now been placed on IR.

2025 has not gone according to Richardson's plan. First, he loses the battle for the Colts' starting QB job in training camp, and now he suffers another injury, and this time it wasn't even during a game.
Now he will have to miss at least the next four weeks as the bone around his eye recovers. Some may say this isn't a major loss because he's Jones’ backup, but in the NFL — and any sport —the backup is just one play away from being inserted into the starting lineup.
With Richardson sidelined, rookie Riley Leonard was elevated to QB 2 in Week 6. But it sure sounds like the team would like to add a veteran to back up Jones for now. Jones has played a full season only once in his NFL career, in 2022.
His season high besides that is 14 games played in 2010. The Colts are, of course, rooting for Jones to start every game for the second time in his career, but his injury history increases the need for a veteran backup while Richardson is sidelined.
