Are Chiefs Close To Solving Left Tackle Problem?

The left tackle position for the Kansas City Chiefs has been a problematic position for the past 12 months, but the front office went to work this offseason in an attempt to rectify it.

Jaylon Moore was signed in free agency to a two-year deal from the San Francisco 49ers, before drafting Josh Simmons in the first round to further solidify the position.

However, Simmons was a slow burn, given his knee injury that halted his final year in college; however, the rookie has slowly been making positive strides to the point where he is now taking a big portion of the reps in training camp.

For head coach Andy Reid, he's liked what he's seen from Simmons so far in camp.

“First of all, he's getting a lot of reps, which I think is important for a rookie,” Reid said. “So, he's been in there and consistently showing up every day and working and not taking plays off. He's a worker, he's willing to do it. It's just a matter of you got to keep on going, but he's done a nice job with what we've asked him. He's working on all the fundamentals and techniques. So, that's a challenge for him.”

So, a good start, but now Simmons has to keep pushing along.

There is a real chance that come Week 1 against the Los Angeles Chargers, that Josh is Patrick Mahomes' blindside protector. Granted, we are projecting a little here but there's no doubt that Simmons is doing all the right things this offseason.

We are still in the early portion of camp, and the preseason games will tell us a little more about the left tackle pecking order with Moore and Simmons, but the Chiefs have two solid options right now.

And in an ideal world, it would be the first-round pick who cements his starting spot, which feels like it's a good chance of happening.
