Arizona Cardinals' new uniforms another missed mark for franchise this offseason

The Arizona Cardinals unveiled new uniforms on Thursday during an offseason where there have been calls for significant changes to the franchise.

If the new uniforms are any indication, those other alterations will be underwhelming.

The team's new, no-frills uniforms include an all-white road uniform, an all-black alternative jersey and lastly, an all-red home jersey with "Arizona" emblazoned on the front, the first time the team's placed its home state on the jersey.

Arizona last redesigned its uniforms in 2005, but fans are likely hoping the next one doesn't take 18 years to take place.

The lackluster reception to the new uniforms is just the latest misstep for an organization in dire need of renovation from top to bottom.

Earlier this month, former team executive Terry McDonough said team owner Michael Bidwell cheated during the 2018 season when general manager Steve Keim was serving a suspension handed down by the organization stemming from a DUI arrest.

According to McDonough, Bidwell forced him and then-head coach Steve Wilks to use burner phones to communicate with Keim during his suspension.

Bidwell denied the allegations through a team spokesperson.

That bombshell report emerged after the NFL Players Association team report cards revealed players view the Cardinals as the second-worst franchise in the league.

In the report, the organization graded poorly in terms of treatment of families, nutrition and facilities.

Bidwell spoke in front of the assembled audience on Thursday before introducing head coach Jonathan Gannon.

"We couldn't be more excited about the 2023 season," said Bidwell before noting the staff is "making a lot of great changes."

Fans should hope he isn't only giving them lip service. The new uniforms probably won't help.

But even if the new uniforms were a hit, until the organization takes care of its deeper-seeded issues, everything else is just wallpaper. Boring, unexceptional wallpaper.
