Atlanta Falcons running back Bijan Robinson had a good start to the season, but in Week Three he delivered one of those career-defining performances. A was so special that he earned not only NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors, but also Nickelodeon’s NVP Award.
Perhaps Robinson was gearing up for this performance. In Week One, he had 83 rushing yards and led the team with 90 receiving yards, for 173 all-purpose yards, though the team didn’t get the win. In Week 2’s disaster against Carolina, he managed 72 rushing yards and 16 receiving yards.
Week Three in Green Bay saw the return of Michael Penix Jr. and an offensive explosion, as both Robinson and star receiver Drake London recorded 194 rushing and receiving yards, respectively, with Robinson gaining 213 total yards.
The NFL and Nickelodeon have teamed up with a few broadcasts to keep the youth interested in football. That has brought unique branding and advertising for kids. One is Nickelodeon’s NVP (Nickelodeon Valuable Player) award, introduced in 2021.
The award is typically given for the most outstanding performance by a player that Nickelodeon deems worthy. This award is typically given during a special Nickelodeon broadcast, but Robinson’s performance was so special that it was recognized outside of that. It’s also an award typically given to quarterbacks.
The recipient of this honor is typically filmed being covered in the iconic Nickelodeon green slime, usually done by their teammates. In this case, Robinson was playfully slimed by his offensive linemen as a way for them to all celebrate and take part in Robinson’s success.
Robinson understands that great blocking up front allows him to do what he does, and he always makes sure to give his linemen the credit he believes they deserve. He also lets them pour the green slime on him on camera. It’s just one of the many ways he makes sure his linemen are appreciated.
Former Nickelodeon NVPs include QB Mitchell Trubisky in a playoff game against the Saints, QB Dak Prescott in a playoff game against the 49ers, QB Baker Mayfield in a Christmas game against the Broncos, Bilal Nichols against the Kansas City Chiefs, and QB Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl.
