Austin Jackson to IR; OUT Minimum 4 Games
The Miami Dolphins have placed right tackle Austin Jackson on IR, he will miss a minimum of four games.
Austin Jackson only played in eight games in 2024 and in only two games in 2022. He is arguably the most injured player on the Dolphins roster the past three seasons, including Tua Tagovailoa.
When Austin Jackson was not in the lineup last season for those eight games, the Dolphins’ running game fell apart and never recovered. He is that important to Miami’s offense.
The Dolphins did restructure Jackson’s contract this past offseason. Per the Miami Herald Report, Austin Jackson didn’t take a pay cut. They just converted $9.71 million of Jackson’s salary into a signing bonus, reducing his salary cap number from $13.83 million to $9.71 million.

With the number of games Jackson has missed in his career, the Dolphins’ front office has to consider moving on from him after this season.
Injuries are part of the sport, but when a player misses this much time on a consistent basis, it is tough to build a winning team.
Larry Borom will start in his place at right tackle.
Borom struggled mightily during the preseason, and he will be playing next to backup right tackle Kion Smith, who also had a rough preseason.
Miami’s next four games are against the Patriots, Bills, Jets, and Panthers.
The earliest Jackson or James Daniels could return is Week 6 vs the Chargers, but again, depending on what Miami’s record is at that time, you have to wonder if it is worth bringing them back into the lineup.
If the season looks lost at that time, there should be no rush to bring anyone back, and they can let each of the players recover fully before deciding to bring them back or shut them down for the season.
