According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Buccaneers and Mayfield have agreed to a three-year contract extension. The deal keeps the two-time Pro Bowl quarterback from reaching free agency after the 2026 season.

Schefter reported the news shortly before Tampa Bay begins its regular-season campaign. The timing is notable after contract talks reportedly stalled when training camp opened.

Mayfield had broken off talks as camp opened, but with the regular season kicking off this week, a deal has been revisited and now struck.”

Mayfield Gets Paid Like a Franchise Quarterback

The financial details make the Buccaneers’ commitment even clearer.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that Mayfield’s extension is worth approximately $55 million per year. That puts him firmly among the NFL’s highest-paid quarterbacks.

“Baker Mayfield’s extension is worth around $55 million per year, in line with other QBs paid in recent years.”

For Tampa Bay, this represents a significant commitment to the quarterback who has led the franchise since 2023. Mayfield will now have long-term security as the Buccaneers attempt to return to postseason contention.
