49ers injury issues keep mounting with De'Zhaun Stribling injury

Injuries have become a constant problem for the San Francisco 49ers, and they are not going away during the team's trip Down Under.

Promising rookie wide receiver De'Zhaun Stribling was the latest player to go down during Thursday's game against the Los Angeles Rams, leaving in the first half with a non-contact injury while running a route.

The 49ers drafted Stribling in the second round, No. 33 overall, in the hopes that he could step in and help provide depth and playmaking to a wide receiver room that has been decimated by age, injuries and and the Brandon Aiyuk situation going south.

He was expected to take on an even bigger role when Ricky Pearsall was lost for the season.

But now there has to be serious concern after Stribling struggled to get off the field on his own power, and then had to be carted off to the locker room before halftime.

The 49ers immediately ruled him out for the remainder of the game with an ankle injury.

Non-contact lower leg injuries are always a concern, and it's not hard to fear something significant given the history of those injuries. Especially when the 49ers jumped over the "questionable" designation and went right to "out."

The 49ers selected Stribling out of Ole Miss and were counting on him to be a major part of a rebuilt wide receiver room that included offseason addition Mike Evans and the return of long-time 49ers standout Deebo Samuel.

Stribling did not catch a pass and was not yet targeted on one before exiting Thursday's game.
