The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are 6–4 and currently hold sole possession of first place in the NFC South. However, after Sunday’s loss to the Buffalo Bills, they now sit just a half-game ahead of the Carolina Panthers in a tightening division race.
Even so, with quarterback Baker Mayfield leading the way, the Buccaneers have reason to feel confident about their chances. Mayfield struggled against Buffalo, completing 16 of 28 passes for 173 yards, one touchdown and one interception, but his offense was missing key pieces. Explosive running back Bucky Irving and wide receiver Chris Godwin were both unavailable, limiting Tampa Bay’s options on offense.
On the season, Mayfield’s numbers remain strong. Through ten games, the 30-year-old veteran has thrown for 2,365 yards, 17 touchdowns and just three interceptions. His ability to read defenses, extend plays and protect the football has helped keep Tampa Bay in playoff position. He brings toughness, leadership and a competitive edge that continues to resonate throughout the locker room.
As Mayfield and the Buccaneers prepare for a crucial road game against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday Night Football, he and his wife Emily Mayfield took the time on social media to make an exciting announcement. The couple shared in a joint post on Instagram that Emily is pregnant and they are expecting a baby boy.
“New addition coming April 2026, and we couldn’t feel luckier,” the caption read. The post included a slideshow of the couple slicing a cake to reveal the gender, and it was blue, confirming the couple’s first son. The slideshow also featured the Mayfield family's dog and their one-year-old daughter, Kova, who was born in April 2024.
While Mayfield’s personal life is thriving, his professional journey has also taken a major step forward in Tampa Bay. Since joining the Buccaneers ahead of the 2023 season, he has revitalized his career, earning two Pro Bowl selections and finishing 11th in MVP voting last year.
Mayfield originally debuted for the Cleveland Browns in 2018 after being selected first overall in the NFL Draft. After a down year split between the Panthers and Rams in 2022, he found new life with the Buccaneers and is now looking to lead them to the playoffs for a third straight season.
Mayfield is currently signed through 2026 after agreeing to a three-year, $100 million deal in March 2024. Given how well he fits with Tampa Bay’s system, it would not be surprising to see another extension in the near future.
