Baker Mayfield MIC’D UP For Bucs’ Gritty Win Over Jets

The Bucs had Baker Mayfield mic'd up for Tampa Bay's game versus the New York Jets on Sunday, and it was the perfect game for the energetic Pro Bowl quarterback to wear a microphone. Mayfield was in the middle of all the action in the Buccaneers' third come-from-behind victory of the season as the team improved to 3-0 after a hard-fought, 29-27 win.

The Buccaneers put out a seven and a half minute video with Mayfield chirping about a lot of things, beginning with "Dirty Dan" Feeney's mullet after headbutting his offensive linemen during pregame warm-ups.

"Dirty Dan with a dirty mullet," Mayfield said as he approached the new Tampa Bay guard and felt his hair. "Look at this man, this is a beauty."

Mayfield also walked over to general manager Jason Licht to complain about the officiating on Sunday. Tampa Bay was penalized 14 times for 124 yards, and between the Jets and the Buccaneers, there were 12 penalties in the first quarter of the game.

"This game is going to be seven and a half hours long, which is fine by me, but they're (the Jets) going to be dead," Mayfield said.

After Emeka Egbuka caught one of Mayfield's passes with one hand down the right sidelines for a 30-yard gain in the first half, the Buccaneers quarterback joked with the rookie receiver on the sidelines.

"You disrespect one of my passes like that again we're going to have a [f'ing] problem, alright?" Mayfield said with a smile. "Two hands!"

Mayfield took the blame for an underthrown ball to Sterling Shepard in the end zone as the team had to settle for a field goal in the second half.

"Ten minutes off the clock, that's a grown man drive," Mayfield said to his offensive lineman as they came off the field. "We've gotta end with seven. That's on me. Good job, boys."

On Tampa Bay's final drive, Mayfield entered the huddle and said: "What a time to be alive, men."

And after that drive ended in Chase McLaughlin's field goal range, Mayfield was pacing up and down the sidelines hoping and praying that McLaughlin would kick the game-winning 36-yard field goal.

"C'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, Chase," Mayfield said. "C'mon, Chase. C'mon, Chase."

Not only did Mayfield engineer a third straight come-from-behind, game-winning drive to start the 2025 season, he also hasn't had a turnover yet. Mayfield, who threw a touchdown pass to Mike Evans on Sunday, now has six touchdowns and no interceptions through Week 3 of the new NFL season. Tampa Bay's QB is on pace to throw 34 touchdowns this season after tossing a career-high 41 last year.

Bucs QB Baker Mayfield Had A Hilarious Reaction To Jamel Dean's Pick-Six

Baker Mayfield turned out to be Jamel Dean's biggest cheerleader after the veteran cornerback raced 55 yards for a touchdown on a pick-six right before halftime. That defensive score put Tampa Bay up 20-6 at halftime.

"He caught it! He caught the ball! He caught it! He caught it!" a bewildered Mayfield said to his Buccaneers teammates as he walked up and down the sidelines, even high-fiving head coach Todd Bowles.

Then Mayfield went over to the bench area to congratulate Dean, who has a reputation for dropping interceptions.

"Dean! Dean! You caught it!" Mayfield said with a smile. "Good job, baby!"
