Baltimore Ravens QB Officially Changes Position
Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The Baltimore Ravens are known for their mobile quarterbacks. That is why Lamar Jackson is currently one of the highest paid quarterbacks in the NFL.

However, with those types of quarterbacks available at a surplus for the Ravens, the team has decided that they could benefit from a quarterback changing positions. Read below to find out more.

Malik Cunningham Switching to Wide Receiver

According to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team, the Baltimore Ravens have officially listed Malik Cunningham at a different position on their roster. He goes from playing quarterback to playing wide receiver for the Ravens. This comes after one season in the NFL.

Considering this move is happening so quickly in his career, it is likely a change to try to extend Cunningham’s NFL career. Why come to that conclusion? Because Cunningham was only on an active roster for two games last season, and those games were with two different teams.

Baltimore Ravens Quarterbacks and Wide Receivers

Knowing the other quarterbacks and wide receivers on the Ravens’ depth chart could give you a better idea of why the Ravens wanted to make this change with Cunningham. For starters, Baltimore already has three other quarterbacks on their depth chart.

This includes Lamar Jackson and Josh Johnson, who are both very mobile quarterbacks themselves. Then, the Ravens currently have Devin Leary as the third quarterback on their depth chart. For those of you who do not know, Leary is a rookie that the Ravens drafted in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

The Ravens could also use an upgrade at the wide receiver position. Right now, their top wide receivers include Zay Flowers, Rashod Bateman, and Nelson Agholor. It could not hurt to add someone who can contribute to that position.

Baltimore Ravens Moving Forward

Truthfully, it was going to be an uphill battle for Cunningham to find his place at quarterback in Baltimore. Lamar Jackson is a franchise quarterback who led the Ravens to an AFC Championship appearance last season. Unfortunately, the Ravens lost to the Kansas City Chiefs, who went on to win Super Bowl LVIII.

Now, the Ravens look to take the next step and appear in Super Bowl LVIX next season. If the Ravens do end up taking that next step with Cunningham contributing as a wide receiver, the coaching staff will look very good at the end of the 2024 NFL season.
