The Detroit Lions took care of business at Ford Field on Monday Night Football with a 24-9 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Lions running back David Montgomery took a backseat to his illustrious teammate Jahmyr Gibbs on the evening as Gibbs rushed for 136 yards on 17 carries with two touchdowns, a stat line reminiscent of Lions Hall of Famer and all-time rushing leader Barry Sanders.
Sanders got a hero's welcome on the field in Detroit as he was shown on the jumbotron, during an eventful day that included a knowing nod to Gibbs.
Sanders sent a message to Gibbs that was widely shared on X as he shouted out the former Alabama star and Nick Saban project, who has excelled under coach Dan Campbell.
"I read in @espn today that @Jahmyr_Gibbs1 like to show out when I come to @fordfield I see you young fella," Sanders wrote on X.

Gibbs also tallied 80-plus receiving yards on the night giving Lions fans, and Sanders, plenty to cheer about.
Sanders' former team now has plenty of time off before welcoming Kevin O'Connell's Minnesota Vikings to town in early November.
The Vikings struggled with Carson Wentz as their starting QB in a loss to the Eagles this past Sunday. J.J. McCarthy is expected back for the Lions game which could improve the Vikings' offensive attack.
Jared Goff, meanwhile pushed his all-time Monday Night Football record to 9-2, which ranks best all-time in the history of the famous prime time NFL slot.
The Lions' rushing attack also remains one of the NFL's best with Gibbs and Montgomery starring so far this season and Hank Fraley's offensive line becoming one of the best in the league.
Lions rookie Tate Ratledge and right tackle Penei Sewell have been among those who have impressed on John Morton's offense.
Fans have all but forgotten about the retirement of former Pro Bowl center Frank Ragnow and are enjoying every minute of the Lions' 5-2 season so far.
Gibbs and Sanders show that the Lions have one of the better running back traditions in the NFL. Now it's time for Dan Campbell's team to rest up and prepare for another hard game against a bitter rival with plenty of accolades and positioning at stake.
