The Chicago Bears are counting on Caleb Williams to take a major step forward in 2025, and new head coach Ben Johnson could be the one to unlock his full potential. One of the most highly anticipated coaching hires in the league, Johnson is preparing to elevate Williams as the dynamic quarterback enters his second NFL season. Following a rocky rookie campaign and questions about his support system, fans are eager to see a much-improved version of the former top pick.

The Bears are aiming to move on from a chaotic season, one that saw Caleb Williams labeled an underachiever despite posting respectable numbers as a rookie. Now, with a new coaching staff in place, Chicago hopes to reset the narrative and build around its young quarterback.

Recently, Bears head coach Ben Johnson gave a glimpse of what to expect from Chicago this season, according to Harrison Graham of Chat Sports. Johnson emphasized that the offense will be designed to highlight Caleb Williams’ strengths and put him in the best position to succeed.

Ben Johnson’s plan for Caleb Williams and the Bears

“This is going to be, I like to fancy it, the quarterback’s offense,” remarked the Bears head coach. “We’re going to tailor this right around Caleb Williams. It will not necessarily be what you’ve seen from the last three years. We’re going to find out precisely what our quarterback does well, and that’s really what we are going to anchor on. “

Over the past three seasons with the Detroit Lions, Ben Johnson has emerged as one of the league’s most effective offensive minds. He played a key role in Jared Goff’s resurgence as a veteran quarterback while also helping young playmakers like Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jahmyr Gibbs, and Sam LaPorta thrive in a high-powered system.

Ben Johnson has a clear understanding of Caleb Williams’ athleticism and skill set, knowing the young quarterback can attack defenses through the air and on the ground. Despite heavy scrutiny, Williams still produced 3,541 passing yards and 20 touchdowns last season, while completing 62.5 percent of his throws and recording an 87.7 quarterback rating. His numbers give the Bears a solid foundation to build on moving forward.

If Caleb Williams can improve on last season’s numbers and the offensive line holds up, the Bears could finally start heading in the right direction.
