In an exciting development for fans and the team alike, the Chicago Bears have signed veteran quarterback Case Keenum to a one-year deal. This strategic acquisition, reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter, is set to bolster the Bears' quarterback lineup with Keenum's extensive NFL experience and mentorship capabilities, particularly in support of Caleb Williams as he enters his second year.

At 37 years old, Case Keenum brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table, having played for seven different teams throughout his 14-season career. His resume includes impressive stints, most notably leading the Minnesota Vikings to the NFC Championship game in 2017 with an 11-3 record as a starter. Despite limited playtime since 2020, his role has evolved, showing his value extends beyond the field into mentorship, a role he is expected to continue with the Bears.

Keenum's last two years with the Texans, although marred by an injury that kept him off the field in 2024, demonstrated his ability to contribute significantly as a mentor. He played a crucial part in preparing rookie C.J. Stroud for the NFL, a role he is anticipated to replicate with Caleb Williams. Williams, who showed promise in his first year, will benefit from Keenum's insights and NFL experiences.

With Tyson Bagent and Austin Reed also on the roster, Keenum's arrival heats up the competition for the backup quarterback slot behind Williams. Bagent, who had a 2-2 start in 2023 but saw no game time in 2024, will likely face the most direct competition from Keenum for the primary backup position. This dynamic could contribute significantly to the team's overall depth and preparedness for the upcoming season.

The move isn't much of a surprise, as the Bears indicated a desire to bring in a veteran quarterback to be Caleb Williams' backup. Now, it appears they have found their man with Keenum joining the fold.
