Bears GM Ryan Pace: 'Everything is on the table' for quarterback

Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Pace and head coach Matt Nagy both attempted to stumble upon a legitimate starting quarterback in 2020. Pace acquired one-time Super Bowl Most Valuable Player Nick Foles last March, and Nagy rotated between Foles and 2017 first-round draft pick Mitchell Trubisky with the hope that one would cement himself as a playoff-caliber starter.

That didn't happen, and Pace addressed the issue while speaking with reporters on Wednesday.

"As far as the plan at quarterback, to get to where we want to go, we definitely need more out of that position," Pace explained, per Jeff Dickerson of ESPN. "Everything is on the table."

As Lester A. Wiltfong Jr. noted for Windy City Gridiron last April, Foles is signed through 2022 on a team-friendly deal that provided the Bears with an opening to go back to Trubisky in the lineup this past fall. Chicago declined Trubisky's fifth-year option in May, however, meaning the 26-year-old will hit free agency unless the Bears re-sign him or retain his services via the franchise or transition tag.

"I just have a lot of confidence in the unity we have as coaching staff and personnel department, but mainly that Matt and I have at attacking that together," Pace added about the ongoing search for the club's starting signal-caller of the future.

Foles likely isn't going anywhere, but Trubisky failed to impress in last Sunday's 21-9 playoff loss to the New Orleans Saints. According to ESPN stats, Trubisky recorded the worst total QBR (13.1) among players participating in wild-card weekend.
