The Chicago Bears have been decimated by injuries early on in training camp. With Braxton Jones joining the list of players currently on the sidelines, the injury bug has now come for Chicago’s left tackle.
While Jones’ injury isn’t considered serious, any lost time would only hurt the Bears’ current depth further. If sophomore Ozzy Trapilo were to return earlier than expected from injury, perhaps things would be easier for Chicago. As it turns out, that is looking more like a realistic possibility, via Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.
“It looks like Ozzy Trapilo, who started six regular-season games at left tackle, then tore his patellar tendon in the wild-card round, might be back sooner than expected,” Breer wrote.
Breer’s update is fairly vague in information. “Sooner than expected,” doesn’t put a definitive timeline on his recovery. But after tearing his Achilles in the Wild Card Round, there were talks of Trapilo missing the entire 2026 season. If he is able to return and be a factor for the Bears, their offensive line would gain a massive boost.
The second-round pick started finding his stride towards the end of his rookie season. A standout right tackle at Boston College, Trapilo had to switch over to left due to Darnell Wright’s presence. That proved to not be too much of a roadblock in Trapilo’s development, as he went on to start six games during the regular season and that Wild Card matchup.
The offensive lineman is still dealing with a serious injury. It is going to be some time before Trapilo is back on the gridiron. But the Bears are hoping he can develop into their future at left tackle. The sooner Trapilo is able to practice, the sooner that plan can become reality.
