Bears Offensive Linemen Receive Notable Reports at Practice 

As talked about when discussing the biggest position battles in a prior Athlon Sports article, the starting left tackle spot for 2026 is up in the air.

Ozzy Trapilo, whom the Chicago Bears had drafted 56th overall back in the 2025 NFL Draft, suffered a serious patellar tendon injury last season, as Courtney Cronin wrote for ESPN back on April 3:

“Trapilo ruptured his patellar tendon…Trapilo is expected to miss the majority of the 2026 season while he recovers...”

With that being the case, this is something to keep an eye on during the next month. Aug. 6 came with a number of notable reports regarding the offensive line. 

Braxton Jones Injury Update

Braxton Jones, who’s listed as the starting left tackle on ESPN, received an unfortunate update from Courtney Cronin on X:

“Braxton Jones looked like he got hurt on his second rep vs. Austin Booker. He has a visible look of pain on his face and like he was fighting back tears. He went back in for one rep and then went into the building with trainer Andre Tucker.”

However, late in the day, Cronin provided some clarity on the situation by posting this:

“it sounds like Braxton Jones avoided a significant injury during camp today…The initial belief is that the injury isn't long-term in nature with the base case scenario (after the team gathers more info on the extent) being one where Jones would be considered day to day.”

It’s great news that this doesn’t seem serious, but at the same time, this is certainly not something Jones wants to be dealing with when every day matters in this battle for the LT1 spot.

Jedrick Wills Report

While Jones received some bad news at practice, there was a very encouraging report around Jedrick Wills from Clay Harbor on X.

When taking Trapilo out of the picture, Wills would be listed as the third-string left tackle on ESPN behind Kiran Amegadjie, but he’s the former 10th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. 

With that being said, Harbor posted, “Jedrick Wills continues to flash. Excellent movement skills and plenty of pop despite one loss to Daniel Hardy a couple other bad plays.”

Kiran Amegadjie Report

Even with the positive report around Wills, Kiran Amegadjie has still put himself in a good spot to be the Week 1 starter. 

Chris Emma posted on X, “As the Bears open up team drills without Braxton Jones, Kiran Amegadjie is getting a chance as the starting left tackle.”

This battle will be something that Bears fans should continue to monitor, and how Jones performs once he’s back on the field is going to be crucial.
