It was quite the busy day at Halas Hall on Thursday with the Chicago Bears getting final preparations done before facing the Minnesota Vikings.
While the team did not hold an official practice, the initial injury report for Week 1 was released and the coaching staff got their eyes on a whole slew of free agents to potentially add to the roster.
First, let's take a look at Thursday's injury report, with participation being an estimation.
Based on the estimations, five players were listed with some kind of injury designation (either DNP or limited) with two other players being listed as full.

Pro Bowl cornerback Jaylon Johnson is the big name on the list, who was listed as limited with a calf/groin injury. Johnson returned to the practice field on Wednesday after missing all of camp due to the groin injury he himself described as pretty significant.
The official status of running backs Roschon Johnson (DNP) and rookie Kyle Monangai (limited) is notable as well for the state of the backfield in Week 1. Johnson suffered a foot injury in early August that continues to sideline him. Meanwhile, things appear to be looking up for Monangai's status on Monday with his hamstring injury that forced him to miss the final preseason game.
Linebacker T.J. Edwards (hamstring) and cornerback Josh Blackwell (groin) were listed as DNP in the estimation and were also not seen practicing on Wednesday.
As one could imagine, the Bears are pretty banged up going into the regular season opener on Monday Night Football. Even though the roster currently is full with 53 players, the coaching staff still hosted workouts with 11 different players to see if any additions could be made, with a corresponding roster move, to help with the depth concerns.
The following players were in the building on Thursday: OT Zach Banner, DE Isaiah Foskey, DE Myles Cole, DB Dallis Flowers, C Wesley French, DE Hayden Harris, C Trey Hill, LB Curtis Jacobs, DB Alex Johnson, DB Deantre Prince, DB A.J. Woods.
Of that list, four defensive backs and three defensive ends were in for a tryout, a potential sign as to which positions the team is concerned about when it comes to depth.
Banner was the most intriguing name, to me, on the list. The former fourth-round pick in 2017 hasn't played a game since 2021 and hasn't been on a team since being waived by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2022. Perhaps he's looking to make an NFL comeback.

As we mentioned earlier in the week, Foskey has ties to defensive coordinator Dennis Allen after being a former second-round pick by the New Orleans Saints and could be the most likely addition to the roster out of this group given his familiarity in the scheme and the depth need off the edge.
We'll see if any roster additions get made and what kind of corresponding move is done to bring a new player onto the team.
