Bears showcase speed in preseason win over Browns

The Chicago Bears showcased their speed on offense in a 34-10 preseason-opening win over the Cleveland Browns at Soldier Field on Saturday. After trailing 10-0 in the second quarter, the Bears produced big plays throughout the remainder of the game to bury the Browns.

Chicago quarterbacks completed 25 passes in 40 attempts for 348 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. Running back Salvon Ahmed had the highlight of the game when he weaved through the Cleveland defense and then used breakaway speed on a 49-yard touchdown reception.

The Ahmed TD put the Bears ahead to stay, 17-10. Ahmed finished with three receptions for 55 yards and the TD and added two carries for 17 yards rushing. Ahmed was one of several new Bears who showcased their speed against Cleveland.

Bears made explosive plays against the Browns

Ahmed was one of several Bears with explosive plays on Saturday. Wide receiver Kaden Davis led the Bears with four receptions on six targets for 88 yards and a 22.0-yard average. Four Bears finished with three receptions, and three finished with two, as quarterbacks Tyson Bagent, Case Keenum and Miller Moss spread the ball around to 11 different receivers.

In addition to Ahmed, Maurice Alexander had a 25-yard touchdown reception, finishing with three receptions for 42 yards. Britian Brown had two catches for 12 yards and a score, and Coleman Bennett capped the scoring for the Bears with a three-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Along with Ahmed's 49-yard catch-and-run, Davis had a 41-yard reception, Ray-Ray McCloud III had a 28-yard reception, and Alexander had a 25-yard reception. Three other Bears had at least one reception for double-digit yards.

The Bears averaged 9.2 yards per attempt and 14.4 yards per completion. While the majority of the Bears' first-team offense did not play on Saturday, they looked in midseason form as a unit calling plays. Assistant head coach and wide receivers coach Antwaan Randle-El called plays for the Bears on Saturday.

The Bears first-team starters were mostly held out against the Browns. There is no word yet if the first team will play on Saturday at Cincinnati. The backups' performances for the Bears against the Browns show the depth and speed the Chicago offense has entering the 2026 season.
