Bengals coach bemoans Cam Taylor-Britt’s decision to take shot at Commanders’ offense

Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt made headlines ahead of Monday night's game, stating that the Washington Commanders run a "college offense." The comments didn't age well, as rookie Jayden Daniels and the Commanders hung 38 points on the Bengals in a 38-33 road victory.

This marked the second straight game in which the Washington offense hasn't had a turnover or punted a single time, something Bengals head coach Zac Taylor was quick to note while calling out Taylor-Britt's comments.

"That's not what we do, that's not what we do...we praise our own team, praise the other team," Taylor said. "We don't need to take shots like that. That team hasn't punted in two weeks; they've scored on every single possession in the last two weeks."

Taylor-Britt's comments were ill-timed, at the very least. The Washington offense, led by coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, has already flashed signs of high upside, and the lack of turnovers and punts over two games is an eye-opening statistic.

As NFL insider Jordan Schultz highlighted, the Commanders are the first team in the Super Bowl era to go two full games without a turnover or punt. Tack on the fact that they're led by a rookie quarterback in Daniels during a year where we've seen other first-year signal-callers struggle tremendously in the early stages, and the feat becomes even more eye-opening.

Daniels played the most significant role in making Taylor-Britt's comments age poorly, as the No. 2 overall pick completed 21-of-23 passes for 254 yards while totaling three touchdowns (two passing, one rushing). In the process, the new face of Washington's franchise also cemented his place as the early favorite to take home the 2024 NFL Rookie of the Year award.
