With Joe Burrow out until December at least, Zac Taylor, Ja'Marr Chase and the Cincinnati Bengals are faced with quite the hardship. However, Taylor doesn’t see it that way.
Taylor, the Bengals’ head coach, was asked if the team needs to find competition for Jake Browning, who went 14 for 25 for 125 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in Cincinnati’s 28-3 loss to Sean Payton's Denver Broncos on Monday night.
“I don’t. I think, with every position, we’re always assessing,” Taylor said Wednesday. “That’s the personnel department. They do a great job of that, presenting us options when Joe went down of other guys we could bring in the room, as well. So we thoroughly exhaust that. I’ve got a ton of confidence in Jake. I’m unwavering in that. I’ve seen the best of Jake. I know that we can do a great job supporting him to where he can go win the games for us.
“I feel extremely confident in Jake Browning.”

The Denver defeat was Browning’s second start in a row after the Bengals lost Burrow to a turf toe injury. Against the Minnesota Vikings the week before, Browning threw for 140 yards, a touchdown and two picks.
Browning also stepped in when Burrow was sidelined in 2023, posting a 4-3 record over seven starts. He was serviceable during that stretch, passing for 215.1 yards per game, 12 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Cincinnati’s attack is gasping without Burrow this time around, though. However, at 2-2, the Bengals have a leg up on the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns. If Browning can’t turn the offense around, it might be a lost season.
