Sunday night's matchup between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cincinnati Bengals was not short on drama. One animated instance after another occurred with the most notable of which being the scuffle between Ja'Marr Chase and Jalen Ramsey.
A video of the scuffle shows Chase spitting on Ramsey, which prompted the cornerback to strike Chase. Ramsey was immediately ejected from the game and both players can expect a suspension, a fine or both to be imposed on them in the near future. The ejection occurred late in the second quarter as tensions rose on the field.
What did not make the headlines as much was the fouls committed against Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who suffered a fracture in his left wrist after being hit hard.
The two offenses against him were committed by Mason Murphy and Joseph Ossai. Both were ruled "roughing the passer." The flags resulted in a 15-yard penalty and an immediate first down.
Those two Bengals players should expect fines. For first offenses of this nature, NFL typically imposes a fine of $17,389, which can increase to $23,186 for repeat occurrences.
As for the other two players involved in the scuffle, both could be flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct and fined $14,491. When Shilo Sanders was involved in a similar incident, he was fined $4,669 by the league. It remains to be seen how the NFL and team management will handle this situation.
