On Saturday night the Cincinnati Bengals kept their playoff hopes alive with a 19-17 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
With the win, the Bengals needed wins from the Kansas City Chiefs over the Denver Broncos and New York Jets over the Miami Dolphins to make the playoffs. Head coach Zac Taylor knew if those two things happened, the Bengals would be force to be reckoned with in the playoffs.
"They're capable of everything," Taylor told reporters after the AFC North win. "They're not going to want us in this tournament. I promise you."
Star quarterback Joe Burrow echoed his sentiments.
"I know that if we get in, we can make some noise with the players and coaches that we have in this building," Burrow said. "We've just got to hope for some help tomorrow and sit back and watch it."
In the end, the Bengals didn't get a chance.
While the Jets took care of business against the Dolphins with a 32-20 win, the Chiefs didn't even come close to competing with the Broncos. Denver won in a 38-0 rout as Kansas City rested the majority of its starters after having locked up the No. 1 seed on Christmas.
After being eliminated from playoff contention, the Bengals issued a message to their fans.
"We appreciate you, Who Dey Nation!! We'll see you back in The Jungle in August!" the team said in a post on social media Monday morning.
