Cincinnati Bengals fans can breathe a sigh of relief.
After walking off the field following what initially looked like a knee injury, All-Pro wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase has seemingly avoided a serious injury.
Chase took a hard hit during Bengals practice on Tuesday and went down awkwardly. However, he walked off the field without assistance.
While Chase did not return to practice, he provided an update on his condition, describing it as a hyperextension and saying he felt good.
“If I had a game tomorrow, I would play,” Chase told reporters via the Cincinnati Enquirer.
For now, it seems the Bengals have avoided disaster.
Chase has spent most of his NFL career stacking up accolades. He’s earned Pro Bowl honors in every season of his career.
He won the receiving triple crown, finishing the season with 127 catches, 1,708 receiving yards, and 17 touchdowns, all leading pass-catchers in all three categories.
He remained productive in 2025 despite Joe Burrow missing most of the season with a toe injury. He still produced at a high level, catching 125 passes for 1,412 yards and eight touchdowns.
The Bengals are still weeks away from their regular-season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Missing Chase for a significant portion of the season would have been a big blow for the Bengals.
The Bengals do have other exceptional pass catchers on their roster, notably Tee Higgins, but Chase has been one of the league’s elite wide receivers throughout his career.
Chase has continued to be one of the best wide receivers in the NFL, and he is expected to play a huge role in the Bengals’ offense this season. His health will be something to monitor as the rest of training camp and the preseason continues.
